Irondale Infrastructure and Neighborhood Plan Kickoff

Body

Summary and Background Information

Commerce City is kicking off a neighborhood plan for the Irondale neighborhood at City Council’s direction. Irondale is centrally located in Commerce City with the boundaries of E. 80th Avenue on the south, E. 88th Avenue on the north, the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad on the east, and the Union Pacific Railroad on the west.  The City’s goal for this Plan is to create achievable goals and implementation strategies for the overall improvement of Irondale.

The City has contracted with Ayres Associates to complete the plan and they are proposing a three-phased approach. The proposed phases are:

                     Discover

o                     A look at existing conditions and challenges

                     Explore + Assess

o                     Working with the community and stakeholders, review and weigh the options to determine the best fit for Irondale

                     Implementation

o                     Putting together the steps to bring the vision forward through district action items.

The plan is currently in the Discover Phase and the consultant is actively soliciting feedback from a number of groups including staff, a technical advisory committee, comprised of exteranl stakeholders such as SACWSD and SACFPD, neighborhood residents, business owners, and Planning Commission. City Councils’s insights are an important part of this first phase and the consultant will be seeking input during the study session.

The plan is slated to be completed in May of 2018 and the subsequent phases of the plan will also include further interactions with Council.
