2019 Core City Infrastructure Improvements and Irondale Neighborhood Plan “Quick Items”

Body
Summary and Background Information: The purpose of the 2019 Core City Infrastructure Improvements and Irondale Neighborhood Plan “Quick Items” is to plan/build infrastructure improvements within the Core City and Irondale to enhance the local neighborhoods.
- Core City improvements consist of
• Mill & overlay of select local and collector streets
• Upgrade signage, as appropriate
• Building missing sections of sidewalk and ramps
- Irondale improvements include:
• Mill and overlay of select local streets
• Upgrade of signage, as appropriate
• Local Drainage Implementation Plan
• Identification/Purchase of properties & ROW to construct
- Retention/Detention Ponds
- Drainage Improvements/Storm Sewers
- Roadway Improvements
- Curb, gutter, sidewalks, streets, and street lighting
In addition to the mill & overlay projects recommended at the 8 April Study Session as part of the 2019 Pavement Management Program, Public Works is recommending the following:
- Core City: Installation of approximately 10,730 linear feet of sidewalk with associated curb, gutter and ramps at numerous locations south of E. 72th Avenue.
- Irondale: Drainage improvements as well as land acquisition research and ROW identification/purchase for the future installation of sidewalks, curb, gutter, ramps, and lighting.
The specific approaches to accomplish this work include:
- Adding identified sidewalk work of existing flatwork contract.
- Coordinate drainage implementation plan through Urban Drainage Flood Control District.
- Hire Land Acquisition Company to research vacant properties for potential detention/retention pond sites and assist with right-of-way purchases.
- Hire Civil Engineer Design Firm(s) to assist with street/sidewalk design(s)
