SECOND AND FINAL READING OF AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE 2023 BUDGET OF THE CITY OF COMMERCE CITY, COLORADO, BY APPROPRIATING $400,000 OF THE UNENCUMBERED FUND BALANCE OF THE GENERAL FUND AND TRANSFERRING TO THE CAPITAL EXPENDITURES FUND TO BE USED FOR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SCHOOL TRAFFIC CALMING PROJECT AND AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE THEREOF
Body
Summary and Background Information:
By Request of City Council, Staff has prepared an appropriations ordinance and summary of the City Manager’s intended funding uses to complete the school traffic calming project, including installing speed tables, speed humps (where speed tables cannot be installed due to constraints), signage, pavement markings, and associated concrete work for ADA ramps, curb and/or sidewalk replacement where needed. The purpose of this project is to incorporate needed traffic calming measures around schools in Commerce City (Adams County 14 & Adams County 27J districts), making streets safer for the community. This is a high priority of City Council and unrestricted General Fund Balance is being made available to cover the cost of implementing this project prior to the start of the 2023-2024 school year.

Please see attached 2023 Traffic Calming Project Appropriations Ordinance No. 22524 Detail document for more information regarding the City’s Manager’s intended funding uses pertaining to this appropriations ordinance.

The total appropriations amount of $400,000 will provide for the installation of speed tables, speed humps (where speed tables cannot be installed due to constraints), signage, pavement markings, and associated concrete work at all schools in Commerce City as well as two additional schools used by Commerce City students, located in unincorporated Adams County.
