Comprehensive Plan Study Session - Character Areas Land Use

Body

Summary and Background Information:

With the direction from the Citizen Advisory Committee, public feedback, developer input, and various other guidance, staff has been developing the draft Character Areas Land Use Map (which will function as the updated Future Land Use Map in the Comprehensive Plan). In addition to the map, corresponding characteristics, standards, and intent have been created for each Character Area. Currently, the joint Planning Commission and City Council Study Session aims to get feedback and additional direction on this aspect of the Comprehensive Plan. The Character Areas Land Use Map and text will serve as the foundation on which the remaining portions of the Comprehensive Plan are developed.

The study session will include interactive activities that will cover:

•                     Character Areas Land Use Map

•                     Character Areas Basic Information Chart

•                     Corridors Overview

Corridors Overview

In addition to the Character Area Land Use Map, the Comprehensive Plan update will include a chapter about major corridors in the City and ways in which to address various development challenges. Seven major corridors have been identified to be specifically addressed in this chapter. Staff will present the corridors and a general framework of the chapter for review and comment. The corridors map and framework have been reviewed by the Citizen Advisory Committee and additional public input has been received on the Corridors Map.

To conclude the study session, the staff will summarize the additional public engagement since May, discuss the next steps of the project, and answer any questions.
