Summary and Background Information:
Commerce City contracted with KP Consulting & Associates to provide technical assistance towards the City’s retail attraction efforts. Katy Press is the founder and principal. KP Consulting’s scope of work with Commerce City includes sharing the top retail attraction practices with staff and City Council in a retail overview, review the City’s retail environment, identify appropriate retail nodes in the city, and identify specific retail developers and/or businesses for the city to target.
Ms. Press provided City Council with an in-depth reference guide on the retail industry and how retailers make location decisions. She presented an overview of the reference guide during a study session on July 27, 2020. Ms. Press is also doing a citywide retail analysis and during this second study session, she will present information on the city's two trade areas and the type of retail she feels will be successful for attraction efforts.
Katy Press has been in the retail real estate business for 35 years, most recently providing consulting services to both retailers and local municipalities in Colorado. Over the last 20 years, she has done consulting work for many of the municipalities within the metro Denver area. Prior to consulting, Ms. Press was Vice President for Catellus Commercial Group, Real Estate Manager for Safeway Stores and a Real Estate Representative for 7-Eleven Stores.
