Title
Urban Beekeeping and Animal Code Updates
Body
Summary and Background Information:
Council requested background information and a presentation on allowing backyard beekeeping within Commerce City. Staff prepared a presentation outlining a model ordinance, potential regulations, and best practices gleaned from other cities.
Backyard beekeeping would allow residents to maintain hives in their backyards within certain bee density stipulations and zoning requirements, as well as enumerated best demonstrated beekeeping practices.
This presentation also includes a summary of the changes to the City's Animal Code relating to "vicious" and "dangerous" animals that Council requested in 2019.
