The Commerce City Parks, Recreation & Golf Department received two (2) awards at the Colorado Parks & Recreation Association's Annual Conference on October 10, 2019:
Columbine Award for New Facility Design for the Bison Ridge Recreation Center
Colorado Parks & Recreation Association Fellow Award - Tony Jaramillo
The Colorado Parks and Recreation Association Fellow Award highlights individuals who exemplify leadership, inspiration and noteworthy contributions to the park and recreation profession. It is the highest honor one can receive as a CPRA Parks & Recreation Professional. It is a pleasure to announce that Tony Jaramillo, PRG Capital Projects Manager is the 2019 CPRA Fellow Award winner.
Tony is a dedicated park and recreation professional working in the field since 1992. He has been active in the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA) over the past 19 years. He began his notable career with the City of Commerce City as a Park Maintenance Worker in 1992 after transferring into Parks from the Public Works Department. His career in Commerce City advanced when he accepted the position of Parks Supervisor. He continued his progression when he accepted the role of Parks Superintendent where he used his experience and leadership skills to oversee the Parks Division for 5 years. In 2005, Tony took on the role of Parks, Recreation & Golf Capital Projects Manager with the City of Commerce City. Tony has managed and overseen hundreds of capital repair and replacement projects including new playground structures throughout the City as well as at least 7 new parks, a variety of trails, open space and building grounds for new city structures such as the Civic Center, Bison Ridge and Eagle Pointe Recreation Centers and the Conter Heritage and Culture Center. He continues to grow and inspire adapting to ongoing change in an organization that has more than doubled in population since 2002.
Tony has long been a leader in the field of parks and recreation and well known within the Commerce City community to be both professional and action oriented. His tireless efforts as a volunteer within CPRA, the Parks Section and a variety of private and public organizations regarding playground safety is commendable. He has received numerous awards for these efforts including recognition from Commerce City and CPRA. Tony has also taken on a number of leadership roles outside of his organization. He served as the Chair Elect for the Parks Section in 2005-2006 and the Parks Section Chair in 2007-2008. Tony has always been involved in a volunteer role for CPRA, which speaks immensely to his character, both professionally and personally. He always offers to help with the Certified Playground Safety Inspectors Course. He has presented a multitude of playground safety sessions at the Parks Spring Workshop over the last 12 years and has volunteered on the planning committee in various roles. He has made numerous presentations at CPRA Annual Conferences. He is considered the Playground Safety “subject matter expert” and happily helps people that are referred to him he has been described as an amazing person. Amazing certainly resonates in all that Tony does in both his personal and professional life.
