RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPROVAL OF MACK TRUCK PURCHASE AND UPFIT SERVICES FROM BRUCKNER TRUCK SALES, INC. AND AUTOTRUCK GROUP, LLC

Body
Summary and Background Information:
The City vehicle replacement budget approved/provided funding to replace three (3) tandem axle snow plows - one (1) truck scheduled for replacement in 2017 and two (2) additional trucks scheduled for replacement in 2019.

The City’s Public Works Streets Division currently has 11-tandem axle trucks that are used primarily as snowplows; but, are also used to carry large loads. This fleet of trucks is aging and is in desperate need of replacement.

Mack Truck Chassis was selected to replace the existing Freightliner chassis. In addition, stainless steel dump bodies and sanders were selected to replace the standard steel bodies and sanders. The City purchased identical dump bodies, plows, and sanders on the most recently purchased plow trucks and they have performed extremely well for the past few years with little sign of degradation. Other municipalities as well as CDOT have chosen Mack Truck Chassis to utilize as snow plows for their operations.

Bruckner Truck Sales, Inc. is the organization chosen to provide the chassis and is located in Commerce City. Mack Truck was awarded a Collaborative Purchase Contract through Sourcewell and AutoTruck Group was awarded the CDOT contract to upfit plow trucks. Auto Truck Group built the upfit on the most recent City plow trucks so they are familiar with the way Commerce City plow trucks are constructed.

Failure to replace the trucks will lead directly to a significant degradation of snow plowing/removal and load carrying capabilities as it is unlikely that several vehicles in this aging fleet will be remain serviceable into 2020. The length of time needed to build the truck from start to finish is generally 6-7 months. This lead-time would mean that trucks approved, and ordered, in June would likely be delivered to the City in December 2019.
