Summary and Background Information:
Based upon direction from the City Council, Commerce City initiated a pilot program for a
7-week civic academy to provide an opportunity for residents interested in deepening their knowledge of the City of Commerce City and its operations (at no cost to participants). Class size was limited to 20 participants, who are residents of Commerce City or employed at a business with a physical presence in Commerce City.
In addition to providing an opportunity for residents to learn more about the role of municipal government, city operations, special districts, and emerging issues, the intention was to grow the number of informed residents, increase engagement, improve trust and pique the interest of residents to participate more in the community.
The city will be awarding a certificate to the participants that have completed the course.
