RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ADDITIONAL PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT SERVICES BY MICHAEL BAKER INTERNATIONAL, INC.

Body

Summary and Background Information

Michael Baker International, Inc. (“Michael Baker”) was awarded a contract as an On-Call General Consultant Engineering firm for the City of Commerce City on July 17, 2017, after the City posted a Request for Proposals (“RFP”) for such services.  Ten engineering firms, including Michael Baker, responded to the RFP.  After evaluating the applicants, Michael Baker, Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. and Atkins North America, Inc. were selected.  The Master Service Agreement (MSA) between the City and Michael Baker is nearing the $250,000 threshold that requires approval from City Council. Michael Baker’s Master Services Agreement (“MSA”) expires on June 12, 2019.  We are requesting an additional $85,000 be added to the MSA so that Michael Baker can continue providing Traffic Engineering Services to the City until June 12, 2019. Michael Baker has done six work orders under their current MSA. Below is the cost and a description of each work order:

Funding SourcePublic Works/Engineering/Contract Services - requested $85,000 can be offset from Public Works/Engineering/Staff Salary

Staff RecommendationPublic Works is currently advertising for a City Traffic Engineer, but until that position is filled, we need outside consulting help to continue to address citizen concerns and to provide assistance with the operation of the traffic signal system. Staff recommends that Michael Baker’s MSA be authorized to spend an additional $85,000.

Suggested MotionI move to approve resolution # 2019-17.
