Title

RESOLUTION APPROVING AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH ADAMS COUNTY REGARDING SHARING OF FIBER CONDUIT AND DATA CENTER SPACE BETWEEN THE CITY OF COMMERCE CITY AND ADAMS COUNTY

Body

Summary and Background Information

In June 2008 a Memorandum of Understanding was agreed upon to share fiber infrastructure between Adams County, AdCom911 and the City of Commerce City.  At that time there existed and still exists today conduit and fiber capacity to provide to the other on an ongoing basis without negatively affecting the ability for either to provide for current and future network services for their jurisdictions.  Adams County has an Information Technology Data Center that is currently used for Adams County technology purposes and has offered Commerce City space in that data center for disaster recovery services/backup at no cost.

In exchange for the City providing reasonable, limited use of fiber conduit down Hwy 2, Adams County will provide the City with one server rack in its data center for disaster recovery and backup purposes.  Currently, City technology backups and disaster recovery equipment are stored at the City Municipal Service Center and City IT staff would move that equipment to Adams County Datacenter if the IGA were approved.  It is the recommendation of staff to move forward with this IGA between the City and Adams County in order to improve City and County technology services and to reduce overall network installation and other related and ongoing costs for both parties.
