Retreat Follow-up - Social/Human Services Availability

Body

Summary and Background Information:  At the annual planning retreat, City Council identified a new objective for administrative staff, to increase availablity of access to social and human services for residents within city by December 31, 2018. The purpose of tonight's presentation is to facilitate a discussion that further  refines that objective, identifies current resources and utilization rates within the community and understand city council priorities.

This objective formalizes a collaborative effort that began last summer with city council support - the creation of an emergency services taskforce - that was triggered by the closure of Alternatives to Family Violence and a recognition for emergency/crisis support for the most vulnerable populations. Since then, the intent of the taskforce has been collaboration - identifying ways to consolidate resources to provide needed services - both emergency/crisis victims as well as those facing challenges of poverty daily. Attached for reference are the taskforce meeting minutes, resource/utilization maps (11x17), and the 2016 University of Denver Burns Center on Poverty and Homelessness.
