Title

Council appointment to the senior commission

Body

Summary and Background Information:  City Council designated council members to serve at will on various boards, commissions and council committees consistent with CP#-3 during the Dec. 18, 2017, regular meeting. City Council also eliminated some boards, commissions, and committees from further tracking. The final list was shared with city council and staff Dec. 29, 2017. On March 5, 2018, Councilman Diaz resigned from his appointment as one of two city council representatives to the senior commission, citing unforeseen scheduling conflicts with the 27J Facilities Foundation.

Consistent with Ordinance 2128, the senior commission is comprised of 16 commission members which includes two (2) members of the City Council. The commission meets from 3 - 5 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the civic center. Mayor Pro Tem Teter currently serves as one of the two council representatives. City Council has several options for consideration:

1) appoint a council member to serve in alignment with the ordinance

2) continue to leave the position vacant

3) amend the ordinance to reflect desired city council appointments

A copy of the ordinance is attached as background.
