Recognition of Adams City High School Student Council, School District for Make-A-Wish Project

Body

Summary and Background Information:  Adams City High School's Student Council hosted the District's first ever Wish Week for the Make-A-Wish Foundation February 26 - March 2. The Foundation empowers students and other youth groups to raise funds through the Kids for Wish Kids program, granting life-changing wishes for kids with critical illnesses. Senior class members of student council brought the concept back to the District following participation in the Colorado High School Athletic Association's annual fall leadership conference. Students wanted to raise money for a cause, bring the community together for a larger purpose, and the ability for kids to help other kids. According to their staff advisor, students also wanted to make the point - through action - that Commerce City doesn't always have to be a 'charity case' - the community has the ability to give back and surpass expectations.

Student council members coordinated a week of spirit activities and fundraisers to support four-year-old Wade, who wished to go to Disneyworld. Through the work of council, seven schools in the district participated, with thousands of students raising more than $10,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
