Police Department 2017 National Night Out Award Recognition

Body

Summary and Background Information:  The National Association of Town Watch introduced the National Night Out Program in 1984 through an already established network of law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups, state and regional crime prevention associations and volunteers across the nation.  The first annual Night Out involved 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states.  Soon the event grew to celebration beyond the front porch vigils.  Neighbors across the nation began to host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel and much, much more.  38 million neighbors in 16,000 communities across the nation take part in National Night Out. The national awards program honors registered communities for participation in the National Night Out Campaign and compete with communities of similar population across the nation.  In 2017, the Commerce City Police Department submitted the documented plan and was awarded 19th place overall in the 50,000 - 100,000 population group and was 1st in the State of Colorado.  A plaque was awarded to CCPD.
