AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE 2017 BUDGET OF THE CITY OF COMMERCE CITY, COLORADO BY THE RECOGNITION OF THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $699,721 FOR THE SEXUAL ASSAULT TASKFORCE AND THE AUTHORIZATION OF THE EXPENDITURE THEREOF.

Summary and Background Information: The Commerce City Police Department in partnership with the Brighton Police Department applied for funds to create and implement a Sexual Assault Taskforce. The taskforce will improve sex crime investigations, sex offender compliance management, and manage the implementation of the national, "You Have Options Program" in both jurisdictions. With these funds we will evaluate the multi-jurisdictional taskforce model and create an opportunity to expand this comprehensive approach to addressing sexual assault cases to additional jurisdictions in the 17th Judicial District. The taskforce will become a model for other law enforcement agencies.
