Title

Parks, Recreation & Golf Dept. Recreation Facility Fees & Charges

Body

Summary and Background InformationThe Commerce City Parks, Recreation & Golf Advisory Committee fees and charges discussions on March 21, 2017 and May 16, 2017 resulted in the recommendations presented to the City Council at the June 12, 2017 City Council Study Session.  Staff shared the proposed fees and charges for recreation facilities, reviewing existing fees and charges, market value (metro area comparisons), and recommended fees and charges supported by the Parks, Recreation & Golf Advisory Committee.  Following the June 12, 2017 City Council Study Session, the City Council considered a resolution amending the Directory of City Fees and Charges at the August 7, 2017 business meeting tabling any action on the resolution following further discussion at the August 14, City Council Study Session.  Items to be discussed include the terms and length of grandfather clause for Resident Senior annual membership pass holders and Resident Child and Youth Fees.

Financial Impact:

It is unknown at this time, what the long term impact may be regarding revenue generation related to the proposed fees and charges.  It is anticipated that the short term impact may be minimal  until we have a better idea of ongoing use of the new and existing recreation centers following the spring 2018 opening of the new recreation center and the completion of the existing recreation center renovation and expansion in the of winter 2019.

Staff Recommendation

City Council to take action on proposed fees and charges at the August 21, 2017 City Council meeting.
