Title
Brighton Fire District Impact Fees
Body
Summary and Background Information:
The Colorado legislature passed HB 1088, entitled the Public Safety Fairness Act, in June of 2016. This bill gives fire districts the ability to impose an impact fee on new development. The bill requires the approval of the City Council and the adoption of a formal IGA in order for the impact fee to be imposed. Brighton Fire Rescue hired a consultant who has completed an impact fee study for their jurisdiction. Brighton Fire Rescue would like to share the results of the study and allow the City Council to consider the fee proposal.
Because Commerce City has three separate fire districts that provide fire services within its corporate boundaries, additional presentations are planned for the City Council, in the near future, to hear from the other two service providers. City Council will then have the opportunity to consider impact fees from all of its fire service providers together.
