Summary and Background Information

Heidi McNeely, outgoing president of the Commerce City Cultural Council, will provide an update of Cultural Council activities this past year, consistent with the organization's bylaws. The Commerce City Cultural Council is a 501(c)(3) organization whose purpose is to bring together those people interested in the arts, especially music, theatre, and dance. The Cultural Council’s major function is to encourage, promote, and foster programs for the arts and cultural enrichment of the community.

As of the end of 2016, the Cultural Council is comprised of ten citizen volunteers appointed by City Council and two City Council members. These members volunteered 729.75 hours over the past year. Additionally, one city staff member was assigned to work part-time in a support role with the Cultural Council. Cultural Council’s 2016 overall budget was $20,993 and this helped to support Music in the Parks events, art shows, participation in the city’s annual Memorial Day Parade, and administrative operations. The budget for the Cultural Council is largely derived from grants.
