Title
Short Term Rentals Discussion
Body
Summary and Background Information:
In Summer 2016, City Council requested that staff research and present additional information regarding short term rentals, or vacation rentals, in light of highly publicized discussions in other metro area cities and nationwide. Per Council’s request, staff has prepared a preliminary presentation to discuss short term rentals, which are typically defined as residential stays lasting for less than 30 days. This presentation is intended to provide more information about what short term rentals are and how they operate, the potential impacts of short term rentals in residential areas, the current status of such rentals in Commerce City and surrounding municipalities, and potential options for regulating them. Staff is seeking direction on next steps. There are no proposed policy or code amendments at this time, and any future amendments would be discussed at a future study session. As this is a study session only, no public meeting or formal voting will be required.
