Summary and Background Information:
It was determined that the current process of investigating sexual assaults is offender centered and not in line with best practices. An audit of 95 sexual assault cases was completed. Of those, 45 cases were re-opened for further investigation. Data of the sexual assault cases revealed we could dramatically improve services to the victims. To improve the process of investigating sexual assault cases, CCPD has started the implementation of the YOU HAVE OPTIONS Program.
The YOU HAVE OPTIONS Program is a law enforcement led initiative, working in partnership with advocacy and experts in the field of sexual assault response and prevention to ensure that the law enforcement response to sexual assault is not only appropriate but also effective.
