Summary and Background Information:
LiveWell’s HEAL (Healthy Eating and Active Living) Cities and Towns Campaign provides training and technical assistance to help municipal officials adopt policies that improve their communities’ access to physical activity and healthy food. Commerce City joined the campaign in 2013 with the passage of resolution 2013-36. The 2015 administrative work plan identified the creation of a HEAL committee, consistent with city council's goal of preserving and nurturing a quality community to improve resident health and safety. With members from the Tri-County Health Department, Community Enterprise, City Manager's Office, Community Development Department, Parks, Recreation & Golf Department, and the Public Works Department, the committee established the following goals and objectives:

Goal: to collaborate on healthy eating and active living initiatives within Commerce City in a coordinated manner consistent with the LiveWell HEAL campaign.
Objectives:
· Encourage an active community
· Promote healthy workplaces
· Increase healthy food access
· Improve resident perceptions of safety and security

The committee met every other month in 2015, identifying the following outcomes:

· Assess current activities within the HEAL campaign’s stated policy areas
· Identify key partners and stakeholders to help advance committee goals/objectives
· Identify various programs/best practices that can be leveraged throughout the community
· Identify implementation strategies to advance three policy areas
· Create self-sustaining program that achieves council goals
· Identify measures of success for programmatic evaluation
· Create recognition program for innovative wellness/program strategies

In October 2015, the committee presented its initial report to city council, identifying activities that had been undertaken to date and presenting the group's proposed work plan for 2016. This presentation will provide...
