Summary and Background Information: Each year the city receives funds from the Federal JAG Byrne grant. This money is allocated based on a formula using Commerce City crime statistics and population as compared to other cities. This year the city was awarded $16,354. After meeting with the police chief, funds are to be used to purchase tasers. As a requirement of the grant, a public hearing must be held not less than 30 days before the application is submitted.
