National Service Recognition Day Proclamation

Body
Summary and Background Information:  During 2014, our 674 Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) volunteers in Adams/E. Arapahoe RSVP donated 118,944 hours of volunteer service. They served in more than 60 locations, helping in food banks, tending community gardens, tutoring in schools (375 second/third grade students in four schools districts), helping in hospitals and senior centers and adult day programs, assisting veterans, helping with recycling events, giving talks on disaster preparedness and a whole lot more. Thirty Commerce City RSVP members donated 7,100 hours of the total number of hours served within our project area.
The goal of Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service, which occurs April 7, 2015, is to highlight the impact programs such as RSVP, AmeriCorps, and Senior Corps have in tackling local problems and to thank national service members for their commitment and impact.
The proclamation helps raise awareness, highlights the importance of citizen service and bolsters support for nonprofit and national service groups.
