AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE 2015 BUDGET OF THE CITY OF COMMERCE CITY, COLORADO BY THE RECOGNITION OF THE STATE OF COLORADO SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $284,618 FOR EAST 72ND AVENUE CORRIDOR INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT AND THE AUTHORIZATION OF THE EXPENDITURE THEREOF.
Body
Summary and Background Information:  The funds from the State of Colorado Safe Routes to School (SRTS) award will be used to transform East 72nd Avenue into a "complete street" that would reduce speeds and create a safer and friendlier bicycle and pedestrian environment. The bicycle lanes will help to slow traffic and make the corridor safer and more inviting for bicyclists. Updating the sidewalks and pedestrian crossings will allow for clear and safer road passage.

The project will include
- Mill & overlay of East 72nd Avenue from approximately Highway 2 to Quebec Parkway
- Restriping of East 72nd Avenue to allow for on-street bike lanes
- Construction of pedestrian median refuges
- Installation of a HAWK (High-Intensity Activated crosswalk beacon) signal
- Repair and upgrade of sidewalks, crosswalks, and pedestrian curb ramps
- Enhancing existing bike routes on side streets leading to East 72nd Avenue with on-street markings and improved signage
