Body
Summary and Background Information:
The Adams County Youth Initiative (ACYI) is coordinating countywide support of National Mentoring Month in January. According to ACYI, 22 percent of ninth graders (on average) in our community report they do not have a caring and trusted adult outside of their home and school. Studies show students without adult role models are almost twice as likely to drink alcohol, 87 percent more likely to use marijuana, 71 percent more likely to be truant and four times as likely to belong to a gang. Collaborative partnerships between businesses, schools, other youth service organizations and mentoring programs are an effective way to support children and youth within the community. Mentoring is a proven cost-effective investment: for every $1 invested in mentoring, there is a $3 societal return.

The ACYI has online resources for individuals to engage http://acyi.org/get-involved/become-a-mentor/ and is hosting a Friend Raiser & Mentor Appreciation Event Tuesday, January 13th, 2015; 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm at Ciancio's Restaurant at Hyland Hills, 9650 Sheridan Blvd., Westminster
