Body
Summary and Background Information:
§ Voters approved a 1% sales tax increase during the November 2013 election.
§ 1% increase went into effect 01/01/2014
§ Sales tax increase is to fund major capital projects in the next five years and used to pay the debt service of the bonds issued
§ Amount projected is based off a pro-forma and is trending to reach $9,000,000 by the end of 2014
§ The designation and opening of the Conter Heritage and Cultural Center required alternative office space for the parks planning and operations division. The remodel of the MSC Building B provides for office space needed for parks as a result of vacating Conter and provides for improvements to both parks and street divisions maximizing space and efficiencies necessary for managing new parks, recreation facilities and infrastructure.
§ Project funding includes cost of temporary office trailer for parks division, design services, remodel construction and contingency (64.5% Parks; 35.5% Streets), and owner related furniture, fixtures and equipment (FFE).
§ The remodel of the MSC Building is for the office space of the parks planning division and public works operations spaces
§ Use of the 1% sales tax revenue to fund this 2K project is recommended since the 2K capital projects will increase the responsibilities of the parks planners, and public works maintenance staff and need for improved facilities to adequately and efficiently manage their operations
