Title
Letter of support for the I-270 TIGER Grant
Body
Summary and Background Information:
The ColoradoTransportation Commission will be approving the Colorado Department of Transportation's recommendation to submit Interstate 270 (I-270) for a TIGER planning grant on April 17, 2014. Background information on the state's request is on page 22 of the consent agenda packet (http://www.coloradodot.info/about/transportation-commission/current-agenda-and-supporting-documents/09-consent-agenda.pdf). The U.S. Department of Transportation's competitive TIGER grant program was one avenue raised by the Federal Highway Administration during Commerce City's federal advocacy meetings as a way to advance long-term transportation solutions for I-270. The city is working collaboratively with CDOT, Adams County and numerous other stakeholders to submit the grant application by April 28.
As presented during the March 31, 2014 city council study session, the grant requires a 20% local funding match. The planning grant requests $1.2M from the federal government and $600K from state and local sources. The draft letter of support provided to council at the dais acknowledges Commerce City's support of the state's application.
