Title

A RESOLUTION APPROVING CERTAIN COUNCIL POSITIONS AND PROVIDING RELATED DIRECTION FOR FEDERAL ADVOCACY

Body

Summary and Background Information

Council is conducting an advocacy trip to Washington DC. Members of Council will meet with our federal Congressional delegation (Representative Caraveo and staff from the offices of Senators Hickenlooper and Bennet) as well as several federal agencies (US Fish and Wildlife Services, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of the Army, Federal Railroad Administration, Federal Highway Administration, Housing and Urban Development). At these meetings, the members of Council present will advocate on behalf of the City for certain policy positions and actions. Members of Council must have specific authorization from the full body of Council per Council Policy #2 in order to represent the City on matters that involve the general interests of the Council as a whole, on issues that are matters of City policy, or on issues in which the Council has been engaged or involved as an entire body.

Staff has prepared talking points and notes in conjunction with our federal advocate and the Council Legislative Committee to prepare for this meeting. These notes are consistent with Council's stated legislative priorities and previous policy direction they have given. They are attached as Exhibit A to the accompanying resolution for further review.
