Recognition of Colorado Parks and Recreation Association's Columbine Award for Renovated Park Design for Fairfax Park
Body
Summary and Background Information:
Commerce City Parks & Recreation was the recipient of the Columbine Award for Renovated Park Design at this year's Colorado Parks and Recreation Association's Annual Conference.  The award presentation narrative noted, "Fairfax Park is over 40 years old and though it is an integral part of the city's drainage infrastructure, serving as a detention pond, it is also a community park serving an area of the city that has few open spaces. Aging infrastructure and out-of-date amenities necessitated a change. With this renovation, Commerce City essentially created a new park. A new court area was constructed, ballfields were upgraded, a new irrigation system and new shelters were installed, and a perimeter path was completed. Community involvement was a key component, including a volunteer activity and public input on existing and new amenities. This renovation will allow Commerce City residents of all ages to enjoy this vibrant, beautiful park for years to come."  Traci Ferguson and Tony Jaramillo were in attendance, and proudly accepted the award.
