Title
National Kids to Parks Day proclamation
Body
Summary and Background Information:
The National Park Trust is hosting the third annual National Kids to Parks Day on Saturday, May 18. The purpose of this event is to engage kids across the country with parks and public lands to promote environmental stewardship and healthy outdoor living. At the heart of the initiative is Buddy Bison, NPT's mascot whose message to children and their families is to "Explore outdoors, the parks are yours!"
City Council was one of 192 elected bodies across 40 states that supported the event 2011. In 2012, National Kids to Parks Day gained momentum, with more than 260 mayors in 45 states and Washington D.C. issuing proclamations, more than 108,000 participants at 250 park events registered online at www.kidstoparks.org.
If the proclamation is approved, the National Park Trust will list the city as participating in proclamations and support.
