Title
Colorado Youth Mariachi Program Sponsorship
Body
Summary and Background Information: Colorado Youth Mariachi Program (CYMP), was officially launched as a 501c3 in 2019. CYMP set out to deliver mariachi music education with the understanding that participant outcomes would be greater than learning to play an instrument.
Mariachi music celebrates the struggles and joys of the Mexican people and is present at all important life events and celebrations in Mexico. This tradition has transcended borders all over the world and welcomes people of all backgrounds to enjoy. CYMP believes in the importance of handing down the tradition of mariachi music to children and young adults who will be the next generation of musicians and educators.
Music education has been proven to influence a child’s chances for success in numerous areas. This result increases for children from under-resourced
neighborhoods.
Since its inception, CYMP has provided mariachi music education to over 100
students in Colorado. The program has found support from local musicians,
workshops and inspired schools to begin their own programs.
It is my motion to request our City to donate $1,000 to CYMP to help and support the continued success of our youth to harness their talents through this opportunity.
