Summary & Background
The purpose of this resolution is to authorize the City Manager to negotiate a Cost Sharing Agreement with the BNSF Railway Company for the reconstruction of the E 96th Avenue crossing. The BNSF crossing at 96th Avenue has been deteriorating and has required frequent repairs - most recently on January 4, 2023 (See Attachment 1 Project Map). The proposed project will be completed in the Spring of 2023 with installation of a new concrete crossing surface for a width of 208 feet from the edge of the pavement on the west side of the tracks to the edge of the pavement on the east side of the tracks. The new crossing surface will adequately cover all vehicular driving lanes at E. 96th Avenue. The BNSF Railway will perform the repairs with the City contributing 50% of the total cost. The estimated total cost is $592,836, and the City’s 50% share is $296,418.
