Summary and Background Information: Each year the city receives funds from the Federal JAG Byrne grant. This money is allocated based on a formula using Commerce City crime statistics and population as compared to other cities. This year the city was awarded $16,923. After meeting with the police chief, funds are to be used to purchase tasers.
The grant application requires holding a public hearing to receive input from the community on how the funds will be spent. A Notice of Public Hearing has been published. After the public hearing, an application for the grant may be prepared and submitted.
