AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE 2021 BUDGET OF THE CITY OF COMMERCE CITY, COLORADO BY APPROPRIATING $57,500 FROM THE GENERAL FUND FUND BALANCE TO PROVIDE FUNDING TO SUPPORT TO COMMERCE CITY SCHOOLS AND AUTHORIZATION OF THE EXPENDITURE THEREOF.

Body

Summary and Background Information

On June 7, 2021, the City Council requested a formal action to provide funding in the amount of $2,500 per school for each school in the Adams 14 or 27 Schools districts in the city. Reunion Elementary School was to be excluded due to a funding approval by the City Council on June 7. The proposed ordinance appropriates general fund balance for providing such funding to 19 schools. The ordinance does not provide any parameters with regarding to use of funds.

To impose limitations, the City Council could amend the proposed ordinance to:

- Direct a specific use of the funds ("I move to amend Ordinance 2337 to insert the following sentence, "Such funding shall be used for the purpose of ________.").

- Require schools to request funding and indicate how it will be used ("I move to amend Ordinance 2337 to insert the following sentence, "Funding shall only be provided to a school after a written request identifying how the funds will be used.").
