Summary and Background Information:
The Healthy Places grant received by Commerce City from the Colorado Health Foundation in 2018 included an Urban Land Institute panel and report. Improvements to the 72nd and Quebec underpass were recommended in this report, and DHM Design produced a design and construction drawings. A mural has already been completed inside the underpass and this project will make additional improvements including:
-Grading, drainage work, and realignment of the sidewalk on the west side
-Repainting existing metal railings
-Native seeding and landscape boulders
-Pedestrian lights on both the east and west side
-Vandal-proof lighting in the tunnel
The improvements will provide a safer and more aesthetically pleasing experience, encouraging increased use of the underpass.
On December 5, 2022 PRG staff reviewed the bids for the E. 72nd Ave. and Quebec Parkway Underpass Improvement Project. Hallmark, Inc. provided the most complete bid at the lowest cost.
