Summary and Background Information:  
Commerce City annually participates in National Crime Victims' Rights week to help raise awareness about the services provided by the police department an recruit volunteers to participate in the city's victim advocate program. The city's Victims' Services Unit is staffed by two full-time employees and eight volunteers, all of whom provide on-scene assistance to crime victims 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. The unit served more than 700 individuals last year, primarily responding to domestic violence or sexual assault cases with essential items such as diapers, toiletries, teddy bears, blankets and clothes. City Council annually approves this proclamation as part of the week's activities.
