Recommendation of Joy Bishop for Mayoral Appointment to Commerce City Urban Renewal Authority

Summary and Background Information:
Per the Commerce City Urban Renewal Authority bylaws, when there is an even number of members on the Urban Renewal Authority (URA), the Mayor may appoint a someone, on the recommendation of the City Council, to the URA. Currently there are twelve (12) members on the URA after the resignation of the past mayoral appointment Peter Buche earlier this year. City staff advertised the vacancy beginning in May 2023 and received one (1) application in August 2023. The City Council Boards and Commissions Committee interviewed the applicant and has recommended the applicant, Joy Bishop, to the full Council to vote to recommend to the Mayor. Since this recommendation, there was one other applicant who has not been interviewed by the Committee. The appointment term for the URA is five (5) years.
