Summary & Background
The Community Development Department saw a need to add a position focused on affordable housing initiatives. As a result of this need, Community Development applied for grant funding from the Division of Local Affairs (“DOLA”) Local Planning Capacity Grant Program in Fall 2024 to fund a Housing Planner position. This position will be focused on implementing a system to expedite the development review process for affordable housing projects, and generally advancing affordable housing goals in the City of Commerce City (“City”). Additionally, the Housing Planner would oversee affordable housing development activities, including identifying opportunities and methods to create innovative affordable housing consistent with the City Council goals. This includes implementing various affordable housing projects and working on housing grant initiatives.
On October 25, 2025, DOLA awarded the City, $201,902 to fund a Housing Planner position in the Community Development Department for two years. The City is providing a match of $50,476 for a total estimated position cost of $252,378.
