A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE SUSTAINABILITY ACTION PLAN

Body

Summary and Background Information

The City of Commerce City (“City”), by and through the City Council of the City of Commerce City (“City Council”), on June 7, 2021, approved and adopted Resolution 2021-38, establishing an eleven-member Environmental Policy Advisory Committee (“EPAC”) charged with providing recommendations to the City to create equitable environmental policies to improve environmental quality outcomes across a broad spectrum of environmental concerns and issues that include some voluntary and mandatory actions in the form of resolutions; ordinances and measurable reduction and restoration goals. A second Resolution 2023-008 regarding EPAC was passed on February 6, 2023, establishing EPAC as a permanent committee. Staff and EPAC held monthly meetings, community meetings, training sessions, and a Business Outreach meeting to solicit feedback regarding the sustainability strategies published in the Sustainability Action Plan (Refer to Exhibit A: Sustainability Action Plan). The Plan has been translated into Spanish to garner additional transparency and empowerment. Based upon residential and business input from EPAC’s partners such as, EPA, CDPHE, and Cultivondo, eleven measurable targets (Exhibit B) and 30 strategies were prioritized (Exhibit C).

By approving the Plan and referenced Exhibits, the City will be eligible for state and federal grants previously unavailable and will have direction for action by the Energy and Environment Office.
