Title
Water Quality Control Commission Antidegradation Rollback Proposal
Body
Summary and Background Information:
On June 14th, WQCC will consider proposal to rollback the antidegradation rule. The rule adds an environmental process to review any human-caused pollutants that would lower existing water quality. As it stands, the WQCC last year denied CO Parks and Wildlife request to upgrade the section of the South Platte River flowing through Commerce City. Metro Water Reclamation and Suncor have discharge permits for that section of the river. (Suncor’s water permit is currently up for renewal). (Please note that the Action box below does not allow more than one action.) Request approval to send city representative to testify on behalf of the city to request the Commission revisit its June 2020 decision not to apply the antidegradation review rule to the South Platte River in Commerce City, and to oppose any rollback of the antidegradation rule; and for city to submit a letter to the WQCC. Request approval of motion for city to actively monitor the WQCC for proposals affecting Commerce City.
