Outdoor Leisure Pool Update

Summary and Background Information: The outdoor leisure pool at Pioneer Park is one of five projects the City is committed to completing within the next five years. Funding for this project is available as a result of initiative 2K passed on November 5, 2013. Commerce City voters approved a one percent sales and use tax increase designated for parks, recreation and transportation. The five projects will be completed in compliance with the following goals and objectives:
Building high quality facilities to lower their long-term maintenance costs
Spending taxpayer dollars wisely and transparently
Completing projects on time
Ohlson Lavoie Collaborative (OLC) was selected to provide design services and Wember Inc was selected to provide Owner's Representative services. The two public meetings have been held: May 20th and June 3rd. Feedback was received from the public via these meetings as well as through the Engage Commerce City website. Using this feedback, OLC created a design for the outdoor leisure pool which will be presented to City Council for their review.
Additionally, there was a public engagement process regarding a theme for the outdoor leisure pool. A small sampling of youth generated six themes including: Egyptian, Games, Jungle, Minecraft TM, Sea Animals and Zombieland. The public had the opportunity to vote via the Engage Commerce City website or by paper ballot available at the Commerce City Recreation Center as well as selected sites throughout the City; 215 votes were cast selecting Games as the preferred theme.
