Title
Colorado Independent Congressional Redistricting Commission Letter
Body
Summary and Background Information:
In 2018, Colorado voters approved Amendments Y and Z, establishing independent commissions for drawing the congressional and state legislative districts following the 2020 census. On June 23, 2021, the Congressional Independent Commission released the first preliminary map (attached for reference). This map has Commerce City split between proposed Districts 4 & 8. Staff believes it is in the best interest of Commerce City residents for the city to remain under one congressional district. As such, staff has drafted a letter to the Commission requesting them to keep Commerce City whole within one district rather than split between two.
The information and data used to draft the letter comes from the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment Open Data site (https://data-cdphe.opendata.arcgis.com/search?tags=Demographics).
