Title
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AWARD OF A CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE COLORADO BOULEVARD BICYCLE & PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS TO COLORADO PAVING, INC.
Body
Summary & Background
The City applied for and received a grant through the DRCOG/CDOT Safer Main Streets (SMS) Program. The City was awarded the grant in December of 2020. This program funds infrastructure projects improving safety and accessibility along urban arterials, especially for vulnerable users who depend on a reliable urban street network, such as pedestrians, bikers, motorcyclists, transit users, the elderly, and those with disabilities.
The City's project consists of roadway improvements to Colorado Boulevard from E. 68th Avenue to E. 70th Avenue for the purpose of providing bicycle and pedestrian connectivity through sidewalks and bicycle paths to the light rail station near Colorado Boulevard and E. 70th Avenue. The anticipated outcome will improve efficiency and safety for pedestrians and bicyclists in the area as well as provide new pavement for motorized vehicles.
The project scope includes asphalt paving improvements to Colorado Boulevard from E. 68th Avenue to E. 70th Avenue including concrete curb and gutter on each side of the travel lanes. Multimodal facilities will be provided through a 6-foot wide concrete sidewalk on one side of the roadway and a 10-foot wide bike path on the other side. Drainage improvements and street lighting will be included in the project.
The engineering design and right-of-way acquisitions have been completed. Michael Baker, Inc. is the design engineer and will assist the City with construction management.
The City advertised this project for request for bids from October 24, 2023 to November 14, 2023. The City received seven bids from contractors (see attached bid tabulation). The lowest responsible bidder was Colorado Paving, Inc. with a bid of $3,056,885.24.
