Title

RESOLUTION CONSENTING TO THE RESETTLEMENT OF REFUGEES IN THE CITY OF COMMERCE CITY, COLORADO

Body

Summary and Background Information

Under Executive Order 13888 (Sept. 26, 2019), federal decision-making regarding refugee resettlement must take into account the consent of the state and local governments where resettlement would occur. The State of Colorado and Adams County have consented to such resettlement. On January 15, 2020, a federal judge enjoined the executive order temporarily.

This resolution provides the consent of the City of Commerce City, Colorado, if ultimately necessary or required by Executive Order 13888, to the resettlement of refugees within the City. Further, the resolution authorizes the Mayor to execute such documents as necessary to indicate that consent to federal and state agencies.  At this time, Commerce City has not received a request from any resettlement agency for the city’s consent to resettlement.

Colorado’s Department of Human Services provides substantial information regarding refugee resettlement in Colorado. For more information, visit <https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdhs/about-refugees>.
