Title

A RESOLUTION TO SUPPORT THE STUDENTS OF THE ADAMS 14 SCHOOL DISTRICT

Body

Summary and Background Information

The Council received a request to adopt a resolution supporting Adams 14. After discussion of that resolution accompanied by public comment at the March 21st Council meeting, a representative of the Colorado Department of Education reached out asking for a meeting between the Commissioner of Education and the City Attorney and City Manager. After that meeting occurred, the Commissioner sent several documents to provide further background and details regarding the history between the State, the District, and the Adams 14 Board, Those documents are attached.

We share everyone’s concern regarding the impact of any possible action by the state Board of Education. With that in mind, it seems clear the focus needs to remain on what is best for the education and lives of the students.

The revised resolution was drafted using elements from the document supplied by the Adams 14 School District’s attorney and the materials received from the Education Commissioner.
