Summary and Background Information:
The mission of the Senior Commission is to advise the City Council, foster greater understanding of senior residents, encourage greater senior resident participation in community issues, inform the community of available services, programs and resources, and advocate for issues of importance to older adults.
The Senior Commission's activities include:
• Analyze data to identify service gaps;
• Assess and recommend strategies that address senior needs;
• Advocate on important issues facing older adults;
• Create information guides
• Promote available senior resources;
• Host informational events and seminars; and
• Initiate or participate in community service projects.
The Senior Commission consists of 16 members (9 regular, voting members, 2 council
members, 2 alternate members, and 3 non-voting, ex-officio members representing
senior programs). The Senior Commission receives dedicated staff support from Senior Navigator in the Community Well-Being Department.
