Recognition of Red Sweater Award Winners
Body
Summary and Background Information:  The prestigious Red Sweater Award, presented by Wells Fargo Bank of Commerce City, is presented annually to at least one outstanding senior volunteer at the city's Senior Volunteer Recognition Dinner.  The Red Sweater Award is also referred to as the Triple C Award, which refers to Consistent, Considerate Commitment to the city's senior program.  This year's event was held on Thursday, September 25th, and two outstanding volunteers were recognized with the award - George Maxey and Gwen Wilson.

George has been involved in senior programming in Commerce City since 1997. He believes that health and wellness goes beyond nutrition and exercise, which is one of the many reasons that he serves on the Senior Advisory Committee's Health & Wellness Committee.  George completed 245 hours of volunteerism this year.  Whether he is driving a van, serving Christmas meals or providing program ideas, George's volunteerism is centered on his philosophy that individual actions have an impact throughout the community.
Gwen Wilson has served in various volunteer capacities over the last 15 years, most notably in the Music Makers program, where her peers nominated her as director in 2003.  While Gwen stepped down from the director role to dedicate more time to her husband following a stroke, she still "makes music" with the group, singing and occasionally playing the piano.
