Title

A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A STANDING ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Body

Summary and Background Information:

An advisory board to be known as the Environmental Policy Advisory Committee (“EPAC”) was established pursuant to Section 11.1 of the City Charter by Resolution 2021-38 on June 7, 2021. Since its inception, the EPAC has developed 124 strategies and prioritized recommendations; measurable goals and draft resolutions to enhance community health and economic development. The recommendations and subsequent tasks will be published in the Sustainability Action Plan. Additionally, EPAC has held community meetings, training sessions and a Business Outreach meeting to solicit feedback and additional sustainability strategies.

During the December 5, 2022, the City Council has identified the need to undertake efforts to ensure the local environment is clean and healthy for all occupants, and recognizes its responsibility on behalf of future generations to address environmental challenges and mitigate these impacts while strengthening the economic opportunities. As such, Council voted unanimously to support EPAC as a permanent Committee and directed the City Attorney Office to prepare a resolution for the December 19th meeting codifying the motion.
