Approval of 2024 Proclamations

Body

Summary and Background Information

Historically the City Council, staff, and outside agencies and groups have requested proclamations for various events, holidays, recognition months, and to honor groups and individuals in the City. A large portion of the proclamations that the City Council issues are routine and issued every year. In order to more formalize the issuance of routine proclamations, staff has prepared a list of recurring proclamations from years past for Council to approve ahead of 2024. If approved, these proclamations will be automatically added to the appropriate City Council agendas to be read by title on the Consent Agenda.

For unique proclamation requests, City Council members, staff, and outside agencies and groups are encouraged to submit proclamation requests at least 30 days in advance of the day of the holiday or event for which they wish to have recognized. This will allow staff appropriate time to draft the proclamation and schedule it for approval by City Council. These individual proclamations will be read in full at the City Council meeting on which it is being considered.

City staff are requesting City Council Members review the list of the proposed 2024 proclamations and provide any additions or changes to the list. Once City Council has made their requested changes, a motion to approve the list of 2024 proclamations (as amended) would be appropriate.
